Bardonecchia is perhaps the most accessible destination in the Piedmontese Alps for Italian snowboarders: there is a direct train from Turin, prices are reasonable, and the snowpark has a serious history. It is not the biggest resort or the most glamorous, but it has something many more famous destinations lack — genuine value for money and a rooted local snowboard community.

The Snowpark Melezet

The freestyle heart of Bardonecchia is Snowpark Melezet, a historic reference point for Piedmontese freestyle riding. Located in the Melezet sector, it is organised across three lines of increasing difficulty, making it accessible to everyone: from the beginner line for those taking their first freestyle steps, to the advanced line with larger kickers and technical rails. The jib area is the most frequented part of the park — creative boxes, rails of various shapes and difficulties, all with attentive snow shaping. The park’s history is reflected in the loyalty of local riders who return year after year.

Freeride and the 4 Sectors

Bardonecchia is divided into four distinct sectors (Campo Smith, Jafferau, Fregiusia, Melezet) that offer different aspects and characters. This variety is an advantage: depending on wind direction and recent snowfall, there is always a sector holding the best snow. Jafferau is the highest and most technical sector, with access to interesting off-piste terrain for experienced riders. Fregiusia is ideal on powder days thanks to its open slopes. The resort is not enormous, but the diversity of its sectors makes it enjoyable for longer.

Getting There

Bardonecchia is the only major Italian ski resort comfortably reachable by direct train from a major city: from Turin Porta Susa, the journey takes around 90 minutes on the line towards France. This makes it exceptionally accessible for riders without a car. For drivers, the A32 Turin–Fréjus motorway has a direct exit for Bardonecchia. The train station sits in the heart of the village, a few minutes’ walk from the lifts.
