Courmayeur

Courmayeur is one of Italy’s most prestigious ski resorts, nestled at the foot of Mont Blanc. With 42 km of groomed pistes and nearly 100 km of skiable terrain including off-piste routes, it draws intermediate-to-advanced riders looking for serious terrain and breathtaking scenery.

Why Go Snowboarding

Courmayeur is a freeride paradise. Its north-facing aspects keep powder snow in prime condition for days after a storm, while the Mont Blanc massif creates natural corridors, couloirs and wild ridgelines rarely found elsewhere in Italy. The quick link to Chamonix via the Mont Blanc Tunnel opens up one of Europe’s most legendary freeride scenes. Heliskiing is a well-organised and legitimate option here.

Terrain & Slopes

The resort is split into two sectors — Chécrouit and Val Vény — connected by scenic lifts. The 33 marked runs include 11 blue, 17 red and 5 black. The longest black drops from Cresta Arp (2,755 m) with over 1,500 m of vertical. Val Vény holds the most technical runs, with steep gradients and consistently superior snow quality. The larch forest below Chécrouit delivers excellent tree riding on low-visibility days.

Snowpark

The Aretù Snowpark at 2,000 m is small but well-maintained, with four progressive lines suited to beginners and improvers. It’s not a destination for advanced park riders, but a great place to sharpen technique between freeride runs.

Getting There

Car: A5 motorway from Turin; from France via the Mont Blanc Tunnel. Bus: Savda buses from Aosta hourly (40–45 min); FlixBus from Turin and Milan. Train: Aosta station is the nearest (40 km), with bus connections. Parking: Free Villair car park with free shuttle to the lifts.

Tips

The best window is January–March for optimal snow and manageable crowds. The 2025/26 season is part of the Ikon Pass network (7 cumulative days). Mountain restaurants are expensive even by Valle d’Aosta standards — pack snacks or head to on-mountain rifugi for better value. Equipment rental in the village is high quality and competitively priced.
