Kronplatz / Plan de Corones

Kronplatz (Plan de Corones in Ladin) is the most distinctive mountain in the Alta Pusteria / Pustertal: an isolated summit at 2,275 m dominating the valley on all four sides, served by modern lifts rising from Brunico, Riscone, Valdaora and San Vigilio. With 121 km of pistes and 31 of Italy’s most modern lifts, it is one of the country’s most efficient and well-maintained resorts, and a regular FIS Snowboard and Ski World Cup host.

Why Go Snowboarding

Kronplatz is loved by snowboarders for its terrain variety: four aspects pointing in different directions mean there is almost always at least one side of the mountain in optimal condition. The south-facing blacks are well-shaped and demanding, while the panoramic reds towards Brunico offer long, satisfying runs. The resort is part of the Dolomiti Superski network, and the summit delivers a 360-degree panorama without equal — the Zillertal Alps to the north, the Dolomite spires to the south. The presence of the MMM Corones Reinhold Messner mountain museum at the top adds genuine cultural interest.

Terrain & Slopes

The 121 km of pistes span 51 runs: 47% easy, 29% intermediate, 24% difficult. The longest run is 7 km. The Valdaora sector is ideal for fluid carving on fast reds; the San Vigilio side is more isolated and often less crowded; Riscone is the most direct from Brunico. The Black Five Challenge — completing all five black pistes in a day — is the official test for advanced riders. 100% snowmaking coverage across all runs.

Snowpark

The Kronplatz Snowpark on the Belvedere piste is the main park, with kickers, boxes and rails at all levels in a well-maintained setting. The Jib Park near the Korer run focuses more on jibbing with varied rail setups. The resort’s history of hosting international snowboard competitions is reflected in the quality of the park infrastructure.

Getting There

Train: Brunico is served by the Val Pusteria railway line (Fortezza–San Candido). From Bolzano approx. 1 hour. Car: A22 motorway, exit Brunico, then 10–15 km to the lift bases. Bus: SAD buses from Brunico to all lift bases.

Tips

Kronplatz is ideal for those staying in the Alta Pusteria who want to mix riding with cultural excursions. The MMM Corones summit museum is accessible with a ski pass. December and January offer the most reliable snow; March can bring excellent spring conditions but busier weekends. The local agriturismo offer is exceptional value for accommodation and food.
