Tarvisio

Tarvisio is the northernmost ski resort in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, tucked at the triple border of Italy, Austria and Slovenia, surrounded by the Julian and Carnic Alps. Small in numbers — 24 km of pistes on 10 lifts — but surprisingly technical: 38% of runs are classified difficult, including the famous Di Prampero, a 4 km black that has hosted Women’s Ski World Cup races. With some of Italy’s lowest day pass prices and genuine crowd-free riding, it is a compelling option for those who want real mountain time without the resort circus.

Why Go Snowboarding

Tarvisio works for two key reasons: price and technical terrain. The day pass is among Italy’s cheapest (from €31 in low season), and the resort’s proportion of difficult runs is well above average. The Di Prampero — 4 km, north-facing, lit for evening skiing — is a serious test for advanced riders. The atmosphere is authentic mountain, with none of the gloss of big-name resorts. The Austrian and Slovenian borders are just kilometres away, enabling easy cross-border day trips. The season is relatively short (typically closing late March), but January and February conditions are often very good.

Terrain & Slopes

The 25 runs span 24 km between the base (754 m) and summit (1,756 m), with over 1,000 m of vertical. The terrain split is unusually skewed towards technical riding: 29% blue, 33% red, 38% black. The Di Prampero is the resort’s signature: from Alpe del Lussari, 4 continuous km down to Camporosso. 100% artificial snowmaking covers all alpine runs. Night skiing runs on Tuesday and Friday evenings on the same slope.

Snowpark

The Gold Lake Snow Park is accessed by a dedicated chairlift and offers two distinct lines: a beginner route and a more technical line with jumps up to 16 m. A separate Gold Park has 4 rails and 2 small jumps. It is not a large park, but it is well-maintained through the season.

Getting There

Train: Tarvisio Città is on the international Udine–Vienna railway: direct connection to Udine (approx. 1 hour) and the Austrian rail network. An excellent car-free option. Car: A23 motorway from Udine, exit Tarvisio — the lifts are virtually at the motorway exit. Bus: Regional buses from Udine.

Tips

The FVG regional ski pass is shared across Tarvisio, Sella Nevea (linked to Slovenia), Zoncolan and other Friulian resorts — a very affordable multi-day option if you plan to explore the region. Best window is January–February. Tarvisio is also an excellent base for cross-border day trips to Austrian Nassfeld or Slovenian Kranjska Gora. Equipment rental in town is competitively priced.
