Corno alle Scale

Corno alle Scale is Bologna’s local mountain — a compact family resort in the highest part of the Bologna Apennines, inside the Corno alle Scale Regional Park. At 1,945m peak altitude, it’s not enormous, but 90% snowmaking coverage makes it reliable, and it’s just 90 minutes from central Bologna by car.

Why Go Snowboarding

Corno alle Scale is best suited to beginner and intermediate snowboarders, or riders looking for a quick day trip from Bologna without a long drive. The dedicated snowboard area has basic freestyle features for those starting out. The resort is compact but covers all difficulty levels, and the high snowmaking percentage means conditions are usually decent. Fun fact: Alberto Tomba trained his early skiing here — a testament to the hill’s steeper sections.

Terrain & Slopes

The resort runs from 1,418m to 1,945m with a 527m vertical drop — the largest in the Corno alle Scale Regional Park. 15 runs cover about 14 km, with the longest descent at 2.4 km. 7 lifts including 3 high-speed quads keep queues short. The slope mix is 30% beginner, 45% intermediate and 25% expert. Two cross-country circuits add variety for mixed groups.

Snowpark

A small dedicated snowboard area with basic rails and boxes, served by a carpet lift. It’s an entry-level setup — good for learning freestyle fundamentals or warming up technique, not for experienced park riders.

Getting There

From Bologna: A1 exit Sasso Marconi, then SS64 via Marzabotto to Lizzano in Belvedere (80 km, 1h30). Seasonal buses run from central Bologna. Train passengers can reach Porretta Terme (25 km) and continue by taxi. Free parking at the lift base.

Tips

Weekends attract families from Bologna — arrive early to avoid queues. The season runs December to late March. The resort offers adapted equipment for skiers with physical and cognitive disabilities. At €35 for a day pass, it’s reasonable value for a day on snow without a long drive from Bologna.
